2. SUP equipment

  • Paddle board: The most popular paddle board today is the inflatable type. Depending on the purpose of use, the paddleboard will have different shapes to suit that purpose. Size usually ranges from 300-370cm. The structure of these paddle boards is made from thousands of polyester fibers securely woven together. The outside is covered with a thick layer of PVC or TPU, making the stand more stable.

  • Paddles: Paddles are made from plastic, aluminum, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and wood. Size is about 20-38cm.

  • Safety lanyard: This lanyard is usually made from flexible plastic/rubber. One end attaches to the SUP's tail, the other end is used to tie it to the leg. This rope helps prevent the SUP from drifting in case you fall into the water.

3. Benefits of SUP

SUP is a sport that coordinates many parts of the body. Some benefits include:

  • Improves health: SUP rowing is a full-body exercise that helps increase strength, flexibility and balance. Standing firmly on a paddle board trains us to have strong muscles and bones and joints.

  • Reduce stress: Immersing yourself in nature and focusing on rowing can help you put aside all your daily worries.

  • Improves mood: SUP helps release Endorphins - hormones that create feelings of happiness.

  • Enjoy nature: SUP paddling is a great way to explore nature and see beautiful scenery. Try rowing a little farther from shore, you will feel the majesty of the water and nature. Especially at Nomia Garden Retreats, where you can fully enjoy the sunset over the horizon.

4. Some principles when SUP paddling

  • Safety: Certainly, the first rule when SUP paddling is safety. Because it is a water sport, it is inevitable that you will fall into the water. For some people who don't know how to swim, this is extremely dangerous. Even if you know how to swim, you will not know what dangers are in the water, such as large fish, strong currents, rapids, etc. So, always wear a life jacket.

  • Technique: Another rule is that you should clearly understand the techniques of standing, kneeling,... and rowing techniques. If you don't master these techniques, you may struggle to row in the right direction. Please follow the instructions of the rescue team or experienced people.

  • Rowing with friends: Invite your friends to row together. In any case, paddling with a friend will keep you safer and happier.
