Let the Grown-Ups Play Too...

"Adults are too busy, who has time to play?" Sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? But think again: when we’ve forgotten how to “play” for too long, have we also forgotten a part of ourselves?
When "play" is no longer just for children
Play isn’t about video games or wild weekend parties. It’s about moments where we reconnect with ourselves. It’s when we let our minds rest, our bodies relax, and our spirits breathe.
It could be a quiet walk beneath a shady forest, sketching while sipping tea, lying still listening to the wind, or paddling across a vast lake on a SUP board. These seemingly simple moments are what “play” looks like for grown-ups.

Play helps us work better
Studies show that when adults have true downtime, time away from stress and constant productivity, they become more creative, focused, and emotionally balanced.
In Rest: Why You Get More Done When You Work Less, author Alex Pang argues that “deep rest” not only restores energy but also fuels long-term productivity. And play, authentic, intentional play, is one powerful form of deep rest.

To play is to live more fully
We’ve all been taught to “live efficiently,” “make the most of our time,” and “take control of life.” But amid all these goals, what we might actually need is a quiet afternoon doing nothing.
An afternoon to sit still, listening to the rain. A morning to sleep in without checking our phones. A weekend somewhere far away, where nobody mentions deadlines.
Nomia – where grown-ups are free to play
At Nomia Garden Retreats, we believe a retreat isn’t about escaping, it’s about returning. Returning to slower rhythms, to nature, and to the parts of ourselves we've lost track of in the busyness of life.

Here, you’re free to play however you define it:
Sip coffee in a quiet garden
Paddle out on the lake in the early mist
Enjoy a relaxing massage surrounded by the scent of herbs and trees
Read, draw, or simply lie down and do nothing at all
And in those moments, you may realize: we never stopped needing to play. And we still deserve it.
